WISDOM - LIFE LESSONS
Live and learn. This is not just a cliche'. It is what we are here on this Planet to do. Every experience has a hidden lesson. Through analyzing our personal struggles we can gain inner wisdom. In order to gain this inner wisdom we must look at our struggles and suffering in a different way than we may be used to. It is common to blame others for our suffering instead of looking deep inside ourselves to accessing how we came to be in the position to receive this experience. In accepting our part of the responsiblity for what happens to us, we can learn how to avoid repeating the same mistakes. We also gain better judgement, to be able to see the danger ahead from a safe distance so that it will be easier to avoid. We must also learn to read the signs. If you reflect on your past experiences you will realize that there were warning signs that you missed because you weren't paying attention, or you ignored them purposefully because you didn't want, or weren't ready to accept that things were not going to turn out the way you wanted them to. This is the Game that many people like to play, often without realizing it. I think it's a Christian thing. It allows you to appear innocent, taking no responsability for what you do or the consequences of your actions. "It just happened!" is the common excuse given when some one is playing this Game with themselves. Nothing just happens! Everything under the Sun goes through a process. This brings us to the "Law of Cause and effect." Causes (actions) create effects (consequences). This is a Buddhist concept and it holds true no matter what religion or belief system you are currently working with. Everyone involved in any situation has a certain amount of responsibility for the out come. Whether or not they choose to own their part is a matter of individual integrity. We must decide if we want to live a life of integrity or live the life of a fool, were we have no control over what happens to us. Therefore we have no hope of changing our lives for the better. This is a sad way to go through life.
First we must change the way we think and the way we look at our environment and the people in it. To make the necessary changes to our thought patterns is not always easy but it can be done. First we must be present in the moment. What does that mean? It means we take our heads out of our asses and look at the world around us! Pull the ear buds out of our ears! Stop playing with our cell phones! These are distractions that keep us from being present in the moment. These gadgets are not in your hands just because they are fun and necessary or because someone just wants to make money off you. This is being done to you on purpose to keep you from being present in your own life, to keep you from becoming Enlightened! (more on this subject later) They help us hide from ourselves and the rest of the world. While we are texting and blabbing all of our personal business public and listening to music with our ears plugged we are not fully aware of our environment and the people around us. If we were present in the moment wouldn't we be more cautious about what we are saying in front of complete strangers who have no business knowing anything about you let alone the intimate details of our lives! If we were in our integrity wouldn't we consider the kind of impression we were leaving on everyone around us. Why does it matter what strangers think of me? It is another part of cause and effect. The causes we make attract things to us like a magnet. The things we attract can be positive or negative. By being present in the moment both internally and outwardly we get to choose what we want to attract. Remember all on this Planet is made of energy and attracts energy. Attracting negative energy even from people who don't know you, will bring you negative effects. Whether you realize it or not! Some would have you believe that "If a tree fall in the forest and nobody sees it or hears it, then it didn't really fall." Well guess what? The tree damn well fell! Your ignorance does not change or reverse the cause or the effect!
In order to become, "Present In the Moment," one of the first things we must do is to become child like again. See the world around us with new eyes! Little children look at the world around them with a sense of Wonder! They absorb and abserve everything, learning something new with every thing they see, every step they take. Every new experience provides an opportunity learn and grow smarter and stronger.
Life will never be perfect as long as you live on Planet Earth but you can learn how to navigate through the rough spots until you get to the good times, so that no matter what happens you will be able to make better choices (causes) and be able to live with yourself and the effects of your choices.

WHAT'S GOING ON? - Thoughts on Current Events
THE PLAN TO INCLUDE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IN STATE WIDE BUDGET CUTS, STARTING WITH NYC.
I listened to New York State Governor Peterson speak twice recently about the New York State Budget Crisis. While I understand that certain budget cuts may be needed. To lump our Schools in with "pet projects" that can not be spared is appalling. The Children are the future of the World. If they grow up uneducated or poorly educated the future looks pretty dim.
Our Schools have suffered enough budget cuts. The high drop-out rate should not be a surprise to any one. The children see effects of the budget cuts everyday in their classrooms. They hear about the budget cuts on the news, along with the raising cost of basic foods. Supposedly due to the high price of gas. In the midst of all of this they hear about Billions being spent on the War. It is obvious to them that the adults in power care more about killing people overseas than whether or not they have food on to eat or if they get an education. So why should they care about education? While the media with all of it's "you can be a star," Game Shows gives them the impression that they just might be able to not only get by but get rich without an education. This is what's going on in this State and I don't doubt, the entire country.
I know that there is a system in place for the allocation of funds and that there are differences and rules between Federal,City and State Funding. But obviously the Government makes the rules and changes them according to their pleasure. Where did Billions come from for war. Those funds seem to be endless. If you have limitless funds for war. Why is there nothing to keep your own alive and to secure the future of your Children?
This may not only affect NYC Governer Peterson mentioned setting an example for the rest of country. So be aware!
Our Education System is already failing our children therefore failing us all. No further cuts should be made to our education system. To the contrary someone should be trying to find ways to not only continue the current funding to our School System but to find more funds to fix what is broken within the system. It's not that complicated. It could be about as simple as a good old fashioned Bake Sale.
A RACE ISSUE OR A HUMAN ISSUE?
What do you think about certain Celebrity’s making absentee Father’s a race issue? Do you really think that only African American men leave their children or set a bad example as male role models?
I for one do not agree with this at all! Men in general are known for dropping their seed pulling up their pants, walking away without looking back. Often they are unaware if they fathered a child, let alone how many children they may have left behind! I see this as more of a human issue that really has little to do with race.
Yes, in the black community there are many single mothers raising their children alone. But let’s get real. There are also many women of other races doing the same thing. Whether it is the result of divorce or now a days with artificial insemination many women of many races are going it alone. It makes no difference whether it is by choice or necessity it’s going on everywhere within every race.
To make this a race issue serves no purpose in my mind but to denigrate and entire race of men in the public eye. I am appalled at Bill Cosby for starting this stinky ball rolling in the first place. We should be building each other up, not tearing each other down. Especially now, when behind the smoke screen of "Political Correctness," prejudice is hidden as though it were nonexistent, while racial profiling runs rampant, and the out and out slaughter of young Black Men in the streets by those sworn to serve and protect us all, goes unpunished..
Now Al Sharpton and Obama have jumped on the band wagon with Bill Cosby. Shame on all of them for putting down their own in an effort to raise themselves up in the public eye. Shame on every one who listens to this garbage and recants it as if it is golden. I don’t deny that there is truth in what they have said about the condition of families in America, but to single out Black Men and the Black community as if this is an isolated problem peculiar only to Blacks is as insulting as it is absurd!
That’s my opinion. I hope if nothing else I have shed a different light on this subject and opened up a new train of thought. It is very easy to accept what is said by Celebrities that we have enjoyed in the past or people in the public eye because they speak with powerful voices that sound like they know what they’re talking about, but while we are listening we must not forget to THINK about what is really being said. What purpose is it really serving? What impact is it having on public opinion?
